The House of the Seven Gables

 

In Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The House of Seven Gables, Matthew Maule builds a house in Salem, Massachusetts that Colonel Pyncheon wants. To get it, he falsely accuses Maule of witchcraft and has him tried and convicted during the Salem witch trials.
